ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Kath Jiang, and I'm a social content strategist, meme enthusiast, and data nerd.

Growing up, I was surrounded by the creative use of technology. My dad loved taking photos and capturing my childhood on video, and I spent my elementary school days taking photos at every occasion or field trip life had to offer.

In the third grade, my computer lab teacher taught us how to use Microsoft Excel. Two years later, he taught us the basics of Adobe Photoshop. In that same class, we’d talk about current events, other technology, and the internet – this was when everybody in my started getting Facebook (totally faked our our birth years to play FarmVille, sorry Mark Zuckerberg). This was also when I started becoming more and more interested in learning about how the internet connects us in different ways.

My exposure to social media content and strategy was making a One Direction fan account when I was in middle school. I'll shamelessly admit it and do so proudly - after all, it later inspired a Master's thesis and led to presenting a keynote at the 2022 Canadian Country Music Awards. Fans make the world go round.

In 2020, I graduated from Western University in 2020 with a BA in Media, Information and Technoculture Studies. Here, I was able to break out of my shell, discover my love for media studies theory, and develop my strategic and creative skills for causes I was passionate about, such as Active Minds Western, and USC Charity. I missed it so much that I returned for a Master's in Media Studies, which I graduated from in 2022!

I’d like to think I’ve come a long way since a fifth grade computer lab class – but I’ve still kept that love for storytelling through multimedia content and an undying curiosity for learning more about social media platforms. Since then, I’ve had had the pleasure of learning more about the field of communications from some incredible, passionate individuals in both work and extracurricular settings.

I'm currently open to exploring freelance opportunities in social content strategy and copywriting. If that sounds like what you're looking for, reach out! Don't be a stranger.
